Day 209 - October 7th 2009
Lickety Split seemed to dominate most of the day. As I try to find new bands to fill the remaining spots in October and November (even December) to keep Fridays and Saturdays going and to try to turn Wednesdays around and get them back to levels they were a few months back. As you work with new bands sometimes people pan out (in terms of professionalism and draw and all that) and sometimes they don’t. Sometimes people cancel, don’t promote, but you don’t know that until you work with them and unfortunately Wednesdays can become a casualty of that. The jam session will help the draw on Wednesdays once we stabilize it
My headlining act tonight needed to perform on another week so a chance to have a good crowd tonight is probably dashed which would make 3 weeks in a row where we’re not busy in there a massive blow tot his promoters ego. We did have 3 great acts tonight so I wasn’t worried about the quality of music.
Matthew Bailey kicked things off using a loop pedal to layer his sound to play covers. A talented cat but I would have liked to see him do more of his original music which is great. Kelvin Cochrane of the Absolute Zeros would follow. That dude is clutch even doing solo versions of my favorite Absolute Zeros songs Red Bone Mama and Dead Flowers. I love that guy to death.
St Alborne would be the unexpected surprise. They’ve always been a great band but I wasn’t sure if they would do well here with the attendance. But they pretty much packed the place, playing an exciting blend of metal and soul. I definitely am going to have them back, possibly on Thanksgiving Eve.
Hit the bed at around 1 tonight. Not much to do tomorrow but gear up for Friday.
